Nailed to the Cross

Nailed to the Cross

Many say the 10 commandments were nailed to the cross. Yet we know that it is wrong to steal, kill or to commit adultery. All agree that nine of the commandments are still necessary, yet they say the 4th commandment is no longer in effect. But, what ever you do with the 4th, you must do with the other nine.

We are saved by grace. But is there any need for grace if there is no law. Exactly what was nailed to the cross with Jesus?

Colossians 2:10 And in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority; verse 11- And in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ; verse 12- having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. Verse 13- And when you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions; Verse 14- having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which was hostile to us; and He has take it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Verse 15- When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, he made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him. Verse 16- Therefore let no one act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day- Verse 17- things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. Verse 18- Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated with cause by his fleshly mind,

Notice in verse 14 that the decrees were canceled out and nailed to the cross and they were a shadow of things to come.

The ceremonial laws that were kept in the side pocket of the ark were but shadows of the real thing. They were temporary until their meaning could be fulfilled. They contained the rules and regulations of how the government of Israel was to be conducted. The Ten Commandments were kept inside the ark. (Deuteronomy 10:1-2 31:26)

Paul is referring to the regulations regarding the religious feasts, New Moon observances and Sabbath days. This is not the Sabbath of the 10 commandments, but the Sabbath feast days. (Passover - Day of Atonement) These occurred on the same date every year, but on different days of the week.

When Christ was crucified, He was the final sacrifice for man’s sins. There was no longer any need for the blood of the sacrificial lambs to be shed. These regulations only pointed toward Christ and His shed blood for us. The ceremonial laws were no longer needed after Christ. They were nailed to the cross with Jesus..

BLESSED BE THE SABBATH !
