Americans have become very aware of self examination in the preventing of cancer spreading until it is untreatable.
When we are sick we go to the Doctor and allow him to examine us so he might treat what ails us. We go for a yearly exam to prevent any problems in our health.
When we have a toothache we go to the dentist for an exam to see how to treat us. Or we go for our yearly exam and cleaning.
Women do a breast self exam in order to find lumps that might be cancerous.
We exam all sorts of things in order to prevent problems.
The problem with most of us is when we are not presently experiencing any major difficulties in our lives we often neglect self examination. We need to examine ourselves daily. We need to honest with ourselves and God. We need to be honest about how we have dealt and reacted to people and situations. Were we a living testimony for Christ.? Was our speech glorifying to God? Were we helpful to others? Did we do something nice for someone else? Did we put someone else's feelings before our own? Were we honest in all our dealings? Do we owe someone a thank you or is there a need of an apology?
We need to set a time aside every day for self examination. We need to confess our faults and seek solutions in prayer and God's Word.
Let us examine and probe our ways, and let us return to the Lord. Lamentations 3:40 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. James 5:16 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9
Father God, help us to always see ourselves as You see us. Help us to see with our hearts. We ask that You help us to change those things that are not pleasing to You. Amen
